As we enter an era of over-the-top, overblown hairdos and hairstyles, there is one style that has become very popular. It’s a simple, sleek look with little to no volume. We refer to it as x trend hair or in some cases, flat top.

Most people have noticed this new “style” floating around social media sites like Instagram and YouTube. You will see mostly white women with this haircut! (And lots of comments telling them how beautiful they are :D)

It is quite interesting to note the reactions these individuals get from other users. Some compliment the cut and its resemblance to a classic lobbed off set, while others criticize it for being too plain and boring.

Chunky braid

Many people have gone beyond simple braids to create what they call x-trend hairstyles. These are typically very elaborate, longer and/or thicker than your average side-braid! Some of the most popular trends in this category are called chunky or fishtail braid, block braid and spiral braid.

With any of these styles, you start off with one long strand that is divided into several shorter ones. Each set is tied together using a clasp or pin. The length of each individual hair segment is equal.

The trick to creating beautiful x-trends is having matching rollers or clips to keep them all together and separate.

Dutch braids

Another hairstyle that has gone viral is the Dutch braid. It’s typically done in two, with one shorter side hair being extended to create an almost fishtail shape. The longer section is then tied off into a loose knot at the back of the head, creating a beautiful frame for your face!

The perfect way to do this style is by starting from the front with one thick strand of hair. As you pull it through, add more thin strands until you get enough volume for the base of the braid. Then work your way backwards, adding new sections as needed, and tying off when you reach the ends.

French braids
