There are two main types of influencers you will come across while doing your research for potential brands or products. The first is what we call “traditional” influencers, which are people with large followings that advertise for brands by using their social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, etc.)

These individuals typically get paid per the advertisement or sponsored content they share, as well as receiving free items in return for an endorsement or review. Technically speaking, it is not an influence if they are being persuaded to promote a product!

The other type of influencer is more difficult to identify- but still very possible. These people are referred to as “organic” influencers. They develop relationships with companies and learn about them through conversations and activities, then they talk about the products and/or services related to the brand publicly.

There are many ways to find these people. You can use specific keywords to search for accounts on popular websites and social networks, do a quick Google image search, or visit local events and discussions to see who is attending and talking. Their profiles may also be helpful – make note of anything special or unique they include such as pictures or links to additional pages.
