How Influencer Marketing Started

What is influencer marketing?

Influencer marketing comes under the category of marketer tools and strategies, but it goes one step further than just using social media to spread your brand’s message. It uses influential people as brands to promote their products.

Influencers are usually very popular due to their large audience or because they have perfect looking pictures and videos. They gain attention by posting about things they are passionate about – something that most people can relate to. Their followers believe them so therefore others may choose to purchase from their channel!

There are two main types of influencer marketing: paid and natural. Paid influencers are individuals who are paid to advertise for a company. This is not always identified as influence marketing since they are being compensated to use the product.

Natural influencers do this spontaneously and thus contribute to an effect of influence. Some examples of natural influencers are YouTube reviewers and bloggers.

By including both type accounts in your marketing strategy, you will be sure to maximize exposure for your product.

Paid YouTube ads

how influencer marketing started

Before influencer marketing, people used to use advertisements as means of exposure. You would have seen it before you logged onto social media sites like Facebook or Twitter.

People with enough money spent advertising their product or service would pay someone to make a video about that product or service. This is how most of us became aware of new products and services.

This isn’t the case anymore though. Online content creators are paid to promote brands through their videos. These types of influencers are called sponsored content writers or sponsored videographers. They get paid for advertisement placement in their videos.

It's important to note that these individuals may not always represent all of the products they're endorsing in their videos. Sometimes they're paid very well to recommend specific products. But usually, they're paid to advertise a certain brand.
