How Modern Is Modern Marketing

In today’s digital era, marketing doesn’t feel like modern. Gone are the days when you could hang up a poster and call it a day; now we have to use all sorts of other mediums to spread our message.
With the explosion of technology that has happened since the 1980s, there are now lots of ways to market a product or service.
These tools range from social media sites where you can create accounts, to software programs that help you do your job more efficiently, to mobile apps that give you access to the product or service anywhere, etc.
All of these things make sense to include in your marketing mix, as they each play an integral part in spreading your message.
However, not every tool is needed for every business, which means some businesses will be left behind. This isn’t good if you want to achieve success with your company.
History of marketing

According to some sources, it is even said that our modern concept of marketing originated with the ancient Greeks. These people would go into town to promote their city’s tribe or clan by spreading word about how great they were!
The early Romans also practiced what we now refer to as market segmentation- targeting different groups of individuals within a community or area.
It was not until the 18th century though when marketers truly honed their skills in promoting products and services. Before then, most everyone did everything themselves–they marketed themselves!
With the advent of mass production and advertising, companies found new ways to spread the word about their products and services.
Trends in marketing

Over the past few years, we have seen a rise in trends that are now considered integral parts of modern day marketing. Technology has played an increasingly important role in shaping how marketers approach their jobs.
Technology like social media, smartphones, and email allows for more efficient communication and outreach to potential clients. Online platforms give you access to millions of people which was not possible before these innovations.
The fact is, technology makes it easier to do your job. It gives you greater reach and tools to convey your message more efficiently. At the same time, technology removes barriers to reaching out to new customers or giving your current ones better services.
With all this talk about how tech shapes our lives, it seems fitting that some changes should be made to how marketers use technology. Here are five trends in marketing you will see emerge over the next couple of years.
Digital marketing

Over the past decade, digital marketing has emerged as an integral part of most businesses’ overall marketing strategy. It is not limited to just SEO or social media marketing, but rather it encompasses all forms of advertisement that are predominately online.
Digital advertisements can be done through various mediums such as search engine advertising, social media ads, sponsored tweets, blogs, and more. Advertisements can also be made interactive by including videos, polls, and/or games.
This article will discuss some of the different types of digital marketing strategies and what benefits they bring to your business.
Understanding your customers

As mentioned earlier, marketing is all about understanding your audience or consumers of your product or service. Who are they? What do they want from you? If you don’t know these things, then it’s hard to craft an effective campaign.
With social media creating vast amounts of interactive data, there are now plenty of tools to help you find this information. Companies have designed software that analyzes posts, comments and conversations to tell you who your followers/fans are and what types of content they prefer.
This is important not only as it helps you target more of their specific interests, but also because it gives you clues for how best to market to them!
Analyzing online chatter can be tricky though. Just like in real life, people will talk about different topics depending on who their audience is and what kind of mood they're in. Sometimes they'll say something one way and mean another- you need to be aware of this and determine whether what they said applies to you.
There are several ways to gain insights into your audiences' preferences beyond just looking at the past few months. Some use advanced algorithms to predict future behaviors, while others test out new strategies to see which ones work better than before.
Creating your brand

As we have seen, marketing is more than just telling people about products and companies. It includes creating a company identity or even designing your own product. This is referred to as branding.
Branding isn’t something that you simply do once and then everything is set and you can relax! You need to continually work on your brand to keep it fresh and relevant.
As mentioned before, brands tell part of their story – who they are and what they stand for. They also describe how well they perform and why someone should choose them over competitors.
But aside from those purposes, brands tell us things about themselves. What kind of business they run and which areas of the market they target. All of these factors contribute to establishing the brand image.
Identifying your target market

With technology advancing at a lightning speed, it is easy to get distracted or overwhelmed by all of the new things that are available to you. Tools such as social media platforms, smartphone apps, and computer programs can be very helpful, but they also expose people more of the world.
With so many different ways to connect with others, it becomes hard to know who your audience is. A way to figure this out is through marketing analytics.
Market research companies track users’ behavior on websites and apps to determine who their audience is. This information is used to develop strategies for future campaigns. For example, if we wanted to learn more about how to use Facebook, these statistics would tell us which features most attracted an audience.
By analyzing these numbers, we could draw some conclusions about what types of content appeal to our audiences. These insights help give us a better understanding of why certain tools are successful and could even suggest alternatives to try.
Social media

With the explosion of social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube, it is easy to assume that all marketing strategies are now fully fledged and incorporated using these mediums. This assumption is false!
While having a presence on social networks is integral to any successful business, going beyond that limit is not always needed to market your product or service.
Online advertising

With the explosion of online shopping and media sites, along with social networking platforms like Facebook and Twitter, it has become increasingly difficult to limit advertisements to only television and newspapers. Technology has made it possible for companies to use various tools to create their own digital advertisement systems that can be customized towards your personal preferences or even personalized just for you!
Most people are familiar with some form of paid content via YouTube videos or Netflix, but there are many other ways that brands will pay to get exposure. For example, Amazon Prime memberships come with one-month free trials of their streaming service, which includes access to over 100,000 TV shows and movies. By paying an annual membership fee for their services, Amazon is able to offer advertisers the opportunity to advertise during this trial period.
This is called sponsored programming and it’s very common in the streamer community. A lot of times users will team up and collaborate on making money through these ads while also promoting each others channels.
