How Much Is Social Media Management?

Managing your social media accounts is not a one-time thing, it is an ongoing process that requires your constant attention. This can be tricky when you are running business or personal accounts at the same time, as well as different times of day for each account.
In this article, I will go into more detail about the two main types of social media management, what they entail, and how much each costs. So put away those expensive apps for now! 😉

What is social media management?
Social media management (SMM) refers to keeping track of various accounts for other people, ensuring their privacy settings are correct, responding to comments and messages, and creating engaging conversations with followers.
This is typically done via software, such as HootSuite, which many companies use. However, there are some things that can be managed through a browser interface only, like Facebook.
Hence why having your own SMM tool is important! There are several good ones available, but none of them are cheap. The most expensive is probably AWeber, which is around $100 per year.
2) Provide a checklist for social media management

As mentioned before, there are several factors that play into social media manager jobs including creating accounts, responding to comments and messages, monitoring and updating profiles, etc.
Running your own account is the most basic thing you can do as a social media manager, but it’s also one of the hardest things to achieve unless you already have an account.
Most people start by trying to get someone else to take over their profile or group, then moving onto adding pictures and decorations, and finally attempting to update their status or posting a new article.
3) Research your market to find your unique selling proposition

The final step in getting social media management done is defining your service and what you will offer potential clients. What makes your services special?
What sets you apart from others is your USP or Unique Selling Proposition. This is like your company’s motto, “the reason people come to us for our services is because of what we do.”
For example, my firm’s unique proposition is to help businesses grow by creating effective online marketing strategies.
It is easy to start offering other things such as posting on Facebook, managing Instagram accounts, and so on, but none of these things make up the full service of social media management. Only I can add that value.
If you are already providing some level of social media management then great! But if you want to take it to the next level then you need to identify what differentiates you from similarly-positioned firms and position yourself more strongly as the best at it.
4) Create your website

While some people hire social media managers that are hired full time, most individuals only have to take over their account for an hour or two of the day. This is usually due to budget constraints, time restraints, or both!
That’s okay though, because you can still manage your accounts without having to work for anyone else. In fact, you should since it is a very important part of marketing yourself as an entrepreneur!
By creating your own profile pages on each platform, you will be able to control what content gets posted, what comments get made, and even who has access to your accounts. You also get to choose whether to promote yourself or not depending on your situation.
5) Develop your blog

In addition to creating engaging content for social media, another way to grow your online presence is by having an active blogging website or platform.
You can choose from several free platforms that do not require you to pay monthly fees, but they may limit the features you have access to. Or you can pick and choose which features you want to add onto your paid plan.
The most common blogging sites include Blogger, WordPress, and Medium. There are many ways to develop your writing style and influence through in-depth research and experimentation of these websites.
By having your own domain name, users will be able to easily type in your site’s URL and find what you have to offer. This will help promote your profile and increase traffic to your site!
In fact, there are almost one billion blogs out there today, so don’t feel like you alone this service. It is very accessible and anyone can start writing about anything and get some exposure.
6) Produce good quality content
This is probably one of the most important things to know as a social media manager. Content marketing is an integral part of what makes social media successful for your business or brand.
Your followers and users will not read anything you put up unless it’s interesting to them. If your posts are full of ads, promotional material or plain nonsense, people will unfollow you.
Content should be written with care so that it appeals to the readership – but also stick to the rules set by the platform you use. On Facebook, for example, posting about fashion products or TV shows is fine, talking about recipes isn’t.
Running a social media account doesn’t mean publishing random stuff every time! Your followers and watchers deserve better than that. Make sure your postings make sense and contain enough detail for others to understand.
And don’t forget to update your accounts regularly! The more often you update, the higher your engagement rate. Try timing your updates during off-peak hours to ensure yours stay active.
7) Encourage commenting and sharing

This is one of the most important things to do as a social media manager. Creating engaging conversations and promoting online content you love will help your followers feel connected and invested in you, your business, and the community.
By adding comments to posts, uploading interesting images or videos, or creating and curating own blogs and profiles, you can inspire engagement and connect with new people.
As we know, keeping up with all of the social networks takes time, so it’s helpful to use tools that make this process easy. HootSuite and Buffer are two apps that can free up some time for you by doing much of the work behind the scenes.
There are even paid services like Followerwonk and Hashtagify that can help you find influential users and keywords related to your business. The more involved in the conversation you are, the better!
Running out of ideas? Ask yourself what you want to get out of your career (the respect of your colleagues, advanced knowledge, money), and then invest in resources and tutorials that boost your profile. You’ll be sure to stay ahead of the game.
8) Monitor everything

The final key to social media management is monitoring. This can be done via software, through apps, or by using different search tools to find accounts, comments, and messages.
By having this access, you’ll know what people are saying about your brand and whether they're positive or negative. You can then respond to prove why their comment is wrong or show them how yours is misleading or even fake!
Your followers will grow tired of seeing your name in the conversation if you don't react sometimes- but that's part of managing a channel!
There are many ways to monitor social media. Some good ones are: use free browser extensions like SproutSocial or Tweetdeck; have a smartphone app such as Twitter Watch or Hootsuite Mobile which give you more detailed information; use dedicated software for specific sites such as Facebook or Instagram (these usually offer greater functionality too); and test out various paid services (but only for a limited time!).
How much does it cost? It depends on the level of service you need and on what features you want.
9) Set up a system with your team

As mentioned before, this is not something that can be done by one person only. This includes posting, responding to comments, managing accounts, etc. It takes time to develop these skills, so don’t expect anyone else to teach you unless you are willing to learn!
Luckily for you though, we have some great tips here for you to consider as you start social media management. First of all, make sure your team is supportive of yoursocial media management.
This means they should agree that it is important in order foryour business to succeed and understand why it is needed. You will want themto share responsibility and feel comfortable sharing information with eachother.
Second, find someone who does it well and watch howthey do it.
