How To Get A Job In Influencer Marketing

Being an influencer is a very popular way to make money these days. People with large social media followings are making good income marketing products or services that feature them as sales representatives, consultants, and/or speakers.
The term “influencer” was first coined back in 2008 when famous YouTubers like Miranda Cosgrove (Nerdy Girl Con) and Michelle Phan (Macy's Online Shop) were paid to promote brands they loved via their channel. Since then, people with influence have made boatloads of cash selling product recommendations online.
There are now over 1 million bloggers in the United States alone! That's one out of every twenty five individuals who uses the internet for business or personal purposes. There are even whole websites dedicated to helping you launch your own digital influencer career if you're willing to put in the work.
Bottom line? It's possible to make a living as an influencer! But it takes some time to find your feet as an aspiring marketer. Finding consistent work can be tricky, so here are all the things you need to know about becoming an influencer master.
Getting into the game
Most people start their journey as an influencer by creating a profile on one of the major influencer job sites. These sites offer reward programs for users to gain points by engaging in different activities.
Find your passion and push it

As we have discussed, being an influencer comes down to knowing yourself well and creating content that appeals to who you are as a person. Your followers and watchers will give you credit for your work so make sure to admire and appreciate yourself before other people do!
Influencers also know what types of content they want to create so why not pick something you enjoy and get some tips from them? Many famous YouTubers begin with filming themselves or doing things they love and then monetizing their channel off of advertisements or sale products.
Find an industry you are interested in

Finding your career path as an influencer is more about what you are passionate about than it is about having the best-looking social media profile or owning a large collection of merchandise.
Influencers come from all different backgrounds, including studying art, fashion, business, psychology, marketing — anything they were passionately involved in before becoming famous for it.
By being familiar with these areas, you can start to explore them more seriously to see if they’re something you would like to pursue.
You could even take some courses to gain more knowledge in these fields!
Finding your career passion isn’t just about looking into classes and seminars, either.
People are drawn to things that make them feel good, so by doing activities related to your potential field, you will know whether or not this is something you want to invest time in.
For example, if you're very artistic, then taking some salse classes might be helpful to determine if this is something you want to pursue. However, if you're more business minded, maybe trying out some creative ways to market yourself is the better route to take.
There are many ways to get started with investing in the area that you love. Starting off by reading books and listening to podcasts can help you get the basics of how to use those skills professionally.
Find an influencer marketing company

Finding work as an influencer is not like being hired for other positions, such as social media manager or content writer. There are few if any agencies that hire direct full-time position openings.
Most of the time, you will have to be recruited into an influencer job opening via someone who already works at the organization. Or, your potential employer may offer you the chance to apply directly through their site or via a referral.
Either way, this doesn’t usually happen until well after applications have been accepted and interviews held. Even then, there isn’t always a guaranteed spot unless you're very high profile.
Tell your friends about your job search

After you make yourself available for employment, the next thing you should do is tell everyone that you’re looking for work!
When I was searching for my position right now, I made sure to let people know via social media, email, and in person. By sharing information with others, it creates more opportunities as other people can refer you or share their experiences hiring someone like you.
Find a mentor

Finding an influencer career path is not easy, nor does it come with easily accessible resources. That’s why creating a mentorship relationship can be so valuable!
Mentors are people that you look up to, who have done what you want to do and go about doing it their way. By learning from them, you can pick up some of the best practices for your job field.
That being said, finding a mentor is hard. You will probably have to work harder than someone who has been working in the industry longer than you. But don’t worry, there are ways to connect with other professionals in the field.
There are many different types of mentorships that differ in how formal they are. Some are completely online, others may require one or both individuals to meet once before getting too involved- just make sure that this isn’t a time where you would usually need a mentor!
Whatever type of mentoring relationship you choose, make sure that it is meaningful to you. Look into the qualities of each position to determine if this match is right for you.
Be consistent

Consistency is one of the most important qualities for anyone seeking employment anywhere. If you are consistently putting in an effort, if you consistently show up, then people will give you credit for it.
As mentioned before, influencers make money through sponsored products or services they endorse. People trust their reputation so if you have done something good in the past, others may trust you when you advertise these products.
Your consistency can be by posting updates on social media sites, making videos or blogs about related topics, or even doing some sponsored work.
However, remember that your personal life should remain separate from your career. You must keep yourself focused only on your job.
Link your social media accounts

As mentioned earlier, most major brands now recruit influencers via their social media channels. Most importantly, it is not limited to just Facebook and Instagram!
By linking all of your social profiles (including YouTube, Snapchat, and Twitter), you make yourself more accessible to potential employers. If you are reluctant to link some of these accounts, at least do so for the ones that can be linked easily like yoursite.com/about or fb.com/profile.
Your email address will also be available to anyone who views your profile, so beware of this! Make sure your emails are easy to find and look professional.
And don’t forget to review your settings as we discussed before. You want to make it clear when people can contact you and what messages you allow to go through.
Create a website

Creating an online presence is a great way to get your foot in the door for influencer marketing or any other career path you’d like to pursue. Starting from the basics, such as creating a LinkedIn profile, blogging, and writing down thoughts and experiences are all very helpful strategies.
By having a strong social media platform, including YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram accounts, you can showcase your talents and gain recognition for it. Your followers and watchers will be able to learn more about you and what you have to offer, which is a good way to establish yourself.
Influencers use their social media profiles to promote themselves, so if you want to connect with people who work in the field, create yours! Most major brands now hire individuals that excel in social media, so developing your skills in this area could land you a job.
