How to Measure Influencer Marketing

As we mentioned before, influencers are people with large social media followings that other brands actively use to promote their products. The importance of influencers as advertising tools is just growing rapidly, as companies find new ways to leverage them for their business.
Influencers have become an integral part of marketing strategies for most major corporations due to their influence on potential customers. They spend time posting pictures and videos about things they enjoy so that their followers will also be inspired to do the same. This is particularly powerful if these followers are from demographics or areas of the market that you target too!
Businesses have learned how to work smartly with influencers to spread their message and gain exposure. Some go as far as paying them to advertise for your product! It’s great revenue generation strategy for influencers to start promoting brands in return for financial compensation.
Measuring success via ROI (return on investment) is tricky when it comes to influencer marketing. Because this tactic creates direct relationships between yourself and others, it isn’t always clear what metrics apply. What works well one day may not work the next depending on the individual.
Digital marketing metrics

When it comes to influencer marketing, there are many ways to measure its success. Yours will depend on what numbers you want to see and how much influence you want to have on those numbers.
The first metric to look at is conversion- this means they clicked on your link or advertisement and completed an action related to your product or service (visiting your website, making a purchase, subscribing to something, etc).
From here, you can calculate click through rate (CTR) which is the percentage of times their page was loaded with a call to action lcssusy. This helps determine if people were interested in your content or not!
Other important conversions include visit length, bounce rate (the number of pages that visited yours divided by total time spent looking at their site), and engagement (time spent reading and interacting with your content).
Influence metrics like follower/follower ratio and comments per tweet help determine whether or not your influencer is worth investing in.
Social media metrics

So, how do you measure influencer marketing? There are two main types of metrics that influence theorists use to evaluate success.
The first is social media metric or engagement metrics. These include things like likes/re-tweets for your posts, comments made under other people’s content, and direct messages sent to influencers.
By looking at these numbers, you can determine just how much attention an influencer is getting from their followers. As well as whether or not they seem interested in promoting brands through their channel!
Another way to look at it is using the term ‘likes’ as a gauge. If there are more likes for one post than another, then that might indicate which post received more traffic and thus was seen more often by people.
The second type of metric comes down to what kind of content the influencer produces. Things such as number of videos, photos, and blogs they publish will all contribute towards determining their clout.
This is also true of their tone – if they talk about products with passion and enthusiasm, this will be noticed and shared online.
Content marketing metrics

Metrics are ways to measure how successful an influencer’s campaign was. They can be categorized as quantitative or qualitative. Quantitative metrics include numbers that show you how much money your influencers made, how many people they influenced, etc. Qualitative metrics look at impressions and reactions to enhance the influence of the influencer.
There are several types of quantitative metrics for content marketers. The most basic is engagement. This includes things like comments, shares, likes, and re-spins of the article or video. More advanced versions evaluate the effectiveness of different pieces of content. These include readability tests, bounce rates, conversion rates, and more.
The most important metric for determining whether or not an influencer is effective is conversions. This is when someone clicks on one of their links in their promotional material or makes a purchase directly because of them. A well done influencer will have some data available about this.
Website metrics

The most straightforward way to measure influencer marketing effectiveness is by looking at your website’s traffic and engagement.
Does the targeted niche group of people visit the site, look at things, read content, add products, etc.? If so, then they are interacting with the content which confirms that it was effective for advertising.
There are several ways to gather this data. You can use free tools or paid services. Some of the more common ones include:-
– Google Analytics – This one is self-explanatory!
– Moz Analytics – A similar service as GA but it seems like it does a better job. I have not personally used it, but many bloggers have given good reviews.
– SEMrush -This tool gives you some basic stats such as social media sites where their audience is located and how large their audience is. It also reports what keywords they search for frequently and how competitive those keywords are.
– UTM links (unique visitor tracking numbers) - These track who comes into your site via different routes (social media, direct visits, ctrl+click, etc.). This information is very helpful in determining the source of your traffic.
These are just some examples — there are tons of other ways to collect web analytics information.
Marketing campaign metrics

When it comes to influencers, marketing campaigns are always being measured using different metrics. Some of the most common ones include: sales, clicks, views, conversions, shares, feedback, returns, etc. Depending on what stage your product is at, there’s usually an appropriate metric for that.
At IFA 2018 in Chicago last month, Thesis ran into some roadblocks when trying to launch their beta version. They found that while people were talking about the app online, very few actually downloaded it. It was clear that engaging with potential users through social media didn’t necessarily lead to engagement that moved the needle.
That’s where we come in! We help brands find the right kind of influencers to promote their products and then measure those influencers’ effectiveness via the same metrics mentioned above. By doing this, you can determine which strategies work and don’t work so that you can repeat the strategies that do work.
Buyer identities

Another way to measure influencer marketing effectiveness is by looking at who your influencers are targeting and what their targeted audience looks like.
Influencers will naturally cater their content towards people similar to themselves, which can be determined through several different metrics. For example, if an Instagram user’s account is filled with pictures of fashion items, then that user probably loves clothes!
By analyzing their followers, you can determine whether or not they have a clothing line, or know anyone else in the apparel business. If so, then you can research how successful those relationships are and learn from there.
You can also look into what products these individuals promote via social media, direct messages, etc., to see what brands they’re associated with and what products they recommend related to said brands.
These brands may influence yours, or they could be competitors wanting to gain market share. Either way, learning more about them is important to ensure the success of your company.
Interests and preferences

A great way to measure your success with influencer marketing is by looking at the types of people you are engaging as well as what products or brands they recommend. If you’re not familiar with some of their styles, get into that!
You can also check out their reviews for different products. While not technically an endorsement, reading negative comments about a product may offer insights into how effective that brand was in attracting attention.
Sales conversion

Closing the sale is what influencers do for a living, so it makes sense to compare their strategies with that of normal business people.
Influencers launch sales through social media engagement or conversations. They build relationships with other users who may or may not be influenced by their brand, then use these relationships to gain exposure for their product or service.
The hard part? Getting those conversions!
Most marketers focus all their energy on getting more eyeballs onto their products, but they neglect the little things that can make a difference in the final outcome.
Conversion optimization is everything from changing the color of your website’s logo to testing different copy and marketing materials. It's figuring out which tweaks work and don't work before investing lots of money into a campaign.
Measuring success
Many companies have internal processes for tracking ROI (return on investment) via analytics. These are very important tools when it comes to influencer marketing because you want to know if your efforts were worth it!
Some vendors also offer external metrics such as bounce rate and time on site to determine effectiveness. However, staying objective is extremely important since your competitors might not share their statistics.
Luckily, there are some key indicators that show whether or not an influencer campaign worked. Here are three tips to evaluate the effectiveness of your campaign:
