Modern Marketing Org Structure

As mentioned earlier, marketing departments are not like they were years ago! With the explosion of technology and platforms to launch campaigns across, along with social media creating interactive opportunities for customers to reach you, the task of capturing attention has never been more difficult.
And it’s not just about having flashy advertisements anymore – engaging in conversations using different channels is now the norm.
The way that people interact online has changed dramatically over the past few years. Text-based chat rooms have given way to messaging apps and services such as WhatsApp, Messenger, and Slack which lack traditional conversation threads.
As companies strive to stay relevant, they must find new ways to approach marketing via these newer technologies.
What we refer to as modern day “marketing” or “organizational structure” strategies go beyond mere advertisement of products and brands. They include all types of communication and engagement systems designed to draw in new business.
Here are some examples of organizational structures used in marketing today.
1. Outstream (Non-advertising content)
Outstream messages can be anything from an article written by your company to YouTube videos promoting your product or service. These outmessages are typically one-off experiences so users do not need to view them repeatedly to get the same value.
Because they are not linked to another site, YouTube videos are easily shared and watched without needing to come back later. This makes this type of content very popular.
The senior management team

As mentioned before, your marketing department will typically include at least one of each of these people in the top position. This is called the senior management team or SMT for short. These individuals handle day-to-day operations and have the power to make major decisions that effect the rest of the company.
Typically, there’s the CEO, who takes overall responsibility for the company and the staff that work under him/her. Then comes the CMO, who works with the CEO to ensure that the business has enough money to stay afloat and run efficiently.
Next up are the CDO(s), chief digital officers, if your company has those. They develop strategies to use social media, advertise online, create content, etc.
And then the CRO, Chief revenue officer, who makes sure the company is bringing in enough profit to keep running.
Finally, there’s the CSO, chief security officer, who coordinates internal safety measures as well as external ones (like cybersecurity).
The executive team

As mentioned earlier, the executive team is made up of your company’s CEO, COO, president, vice presidents, and marketing directors/managers. These individuals are in charge of the overall success or failure of the organization.
The executives work together to set organizational goals and make decisions that move the company forward. They also oversee the departments that help promote the product or service.
As you can see, the marketing department is part of the executive team. This includes all areas like advertising, sales, public relations, etc.
These individuals are very important parts of the company as they bring in the money. Without them, the business would not survive!
They are typically paid well enough so that they don’t have to worry about it, but making sure their personal lives get taken care of may cost some extra money.
Additional benefits include having someone who isn’t performing his or her job will probably be let go soon, which helps reduce overhead costs.
The marketing department

As we mentioned before, most businesses have a marketing team that is made up of individuals who work under one boss — usually the CEO or senior leader of the company. This individual’s job is to coordinate all of the different departments within the organization so that they are working together towards a common goal.
In fact, in some cases there can be more than one level of leadership within the marketing department! For example, sometimes there will be an assistant manager who works directly with another person in the department.
The two may not know each other, but their jobs are still connected because both contribute to the success of the marketing campaign. Their bosses meet frequently though, which helps keep relationships strong.
Just like any other part of the business, there should be no room for personal conflicts inside the marketing department. If someone comes across as less friendly or professional, it could hurt your brand and negatively influence others around them.
The marketing process

As mentioned earlier, your marketing team does not exist to serve as an advertisement for your products. They are there to create effective campaigns that influence potential customers to spend money on you or perform actions related to you.
Your marketing team is made up of individuals with different specialties; therefore, they each need their own area of responsibility. This way, everyone knows what their job is and can fulfill it effectively.
As a leader of this organization, you will play different roles depending on the situation. You can be directing the campaign, motivating the staff, talking to media about your product, etc.
There are two main reasons why having individual departments in a business makes sense. First, it helps keep people separate. Having their own areas means they do not have to work together, which often creates tension. Second, it gives clear responsibilities to people so anyone can succeed at their jobs.
The website

As we mentioned before, most big businesses have an online presence these days! This includes your company’s main website as well as any other websites that promote yours or are affiliated with you.
Running a business means dealing with lots of different things, but one thing is for sure- keeping up to date on all of the things that affect your business can feel like a never ending process.
And it is! It’s just a part of running a business.
But this is why having an organized marketing team comes in handy. Because they’re already trained in their area, someone else can handle them.
That person could be you at some point! So what are the best ways to organize your marketing team? Here are our tips.
Social media

As we mentioned before, marketing departments are not the same these days. Gone are the times when marketers were given large chunks of money to spend and told to make it work!
In fact, in some cases, they’re even being asked to prove their effectiveness. This is totally normal and should be embraced as an opportunity to evolve and improve your service or product!
As such, most firms have to operate under more stringent budgets than ever before. There aren’t many resources available for buying new equipment or paying big bonuses to department heads that don’t produce results.
This is where social media comes into play- by offering free tools that anyone can use, they become accessible to almost everyone. Creating accounts for yourself and working towards engaging with people can easily add up in cost savings down the line.
By investing time now, you’ll reap the benefits later.
Email marketing

With the explosion of technology, there are now many ways to send out messages to your audience. Gone are the days when you would need to use print media or posting online statements to get people’s attention.
With the availability of almost anything digital, from phones with large screens, to laptops, to tablets, it is easy to access all of these tools and equipment to promote your product or service.
You can do this through direct messaging apps, social media sites, blogs, YouTube videos, and even email! All of these mediums have variations that allow you to include content, images, and links in them.
It is important to know what types of emails work for your business and how to implement them into your promotional strategy. There are three main types of emails that most businesses will use at some point in their campaign:
Message announcement – These are general announcements about your business or company. This could be an update on your website, an event invite, or a new job opportunity.

Product promotion -This is using your products or services as a topic of conversation. You could make a case why their customer should try them, or just tell them about the benefits.
