Woman dies after being mauled by her dog

A woman died this week from injuries she suffered while trying to save her dog that had attacked hers. According to police, the incident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of East Lake Road in Englewood. An unidentified 32-year-old woman was walking her two dogs outside when one of them started barking at something inside a home across the street. The woman went over to check it out and found her other dog attacking its neighbor’s Chihuahua. She tried pulling off the leash but failed, so she picked up an empty coffee can and hit the dog with it. That didn’t work either, so she ran back into the house for another object. At that point, her dog followed her in and they fought until the dog bit her leg and she fell down. Her companion then grabbed his dog and left without looking back.

As she lay there bleeding heavily, several people drove past and called 911. When officers arrived, they found her unconscious and transported her to a hospital where she later died. Although their investigation is not complete, police said it appears as if her death was caused by the dog.

Girl, 2, dies after being hit by car

A two-year old girl has died after she was struck and dragged down an embankment in Toronto Sunday night. According to police, around 6 p.m., witnesses noticed a red SUV parked near a playground in the area of Greenbank Park at Bathurst Street and Finch Avenue West. When they went to check on it, they found the child laying face up along the edge of the road with the vehicle still running. First responders performed CPR but were unable to revive her.

Police say that there are no indications that drugs or alcohol played a role in this incident. The driver left the scene before officers arrived.

The coroner told CP24 that investigators believe the little girl may have wandered out from the play structure where she lived. They’re looking into if anyone saw the child walking alone outside the park earlier in the day. It is not known how long the child had been lying in the roadway when she was discovered.

Woman dies after being mauled by her dog

A woman has died six months later due to complications from an animal attack she suffered in May. According to police, 36-year-old Jennifer Lai of Calgary was walking her two dogs around 1 p.m. near Macleod Trail and Memorial Drive when they got into a fight with another canine.

The other dog bit off part of one of Lai’s hands before running away. The rest is gruesomely familiar to most Calgarians: Lai pulled out a knife and stabbed the attacking dog several times until it let go.

But that wasn’t enough for her. She picked up what remained and threw it at the second dog, killing it instantly.

Sadly, this only seemed to spur the first dog onto its next victim. Lai ran across the street where she collapsed and died of blood loss.

Police are still looking into whether there were any broken laws committed during the incident but believe this case to be clearly negligent homicide.
