Why is it that we as humans struggle against our impulses? Why do we try to hold off eating that second piece of chocolate cake until we feel less hungry? Or why do we wait until we are sure we are free before we call or text someone we have been wanting to speak with or say good-bye to for weeks?

It makes no sense, really. But there must be something internal that compels us to take action.

There has to be. Otherwise, we would all sit around and eat nothing but broccoli for the rest of our lives. (I mean, come on — who wouldn’t enjoy that?)

So, why don’t we just stay home every day and read The Hobbit till bedtime?

That probably isn’t very fun for anyone else! And let’s not forget about those hobbits… They’re going through some pretty tough times too!

In his book What Are You Waiting For?, author Dave Foley talks about why we sometimes put off doing things that we need to do. He suggests that one of the reasons is because we get distracted by thoughts of the thing we were planning to do next.

They get shot or stabbed by the villain and then they die. Sometimes it takes several minutes for someone to be hit enough to actually kill them.

This kind of storytelling was made popular in the 1980s with films such as Death Wish and Lethal Weapon. Since then, it has become something of an epidemic. There are now more than 100 death scene parody videos online!

Some people call it ‘death porn’ because of how graphic and realistic some of them seem. They also say it helps normalize violence and suicide.

The movie is set in Italy

In the opening scenes of What Happened,ldquo;Italy!” Daniel (played by Martin Scorsese) shouts this out while driving with his friend Marco (Tommasoiani). They are celebrating Marco’s birthday when he suggests they go to Italy for an extended vacation.

It takes place about two years later and so we learn that Daniel has just finished writing his third book. He now needs to take some time off and travel before returning to work.

He convinces himself that what happened between him and Katia (Laura Haddock), his ex-girlfriend who lives in Italy, was over and done with. She will find someone else eventually, she always puts on her fake smile even during sex, and things like birthmarks or tattoos don’t look good on her.

But then one day she sends him a picture of herself completely naked and it breaks his heart all over again. This doesn’t seem like the kind of person who gets lost easily and so he sets up camp outside her house to see if he can figure out where she goes after work.

That night she comes home early and finds him waiting there with a coffee. When she tries to push past him to get into her apartment, he grabs her arms and says something strange.

There are many references in the movie to other famous works of art

Many have linked The Group as inspiration for how the villainous team in this film ends up. These include Suicide Squad, Black Mass, and All About My Girl. More broadly, there is a reason why people refer to suicide or murder-suicide scenarios as “the group”.

That need to connect can sometimes outweigh whether an action is moral or not. For example, there was a recent news story where a man saved a baby from certain death by eating chocolate instead of giving him medicine.

Some people felt this man should have given the child the medicine rather than eat the chocolate, but others believed he did the right thing by saving the life of the baby. So which one were you?

I thought the person who ate the chocolate deserved the praise for risking their own health to save the baby’s. They showed strength by doing something selfless instead of letting nature take its course.
